We are sitting "cat shiva" today.
I'm actually sitting at my kitchen table with a literally dead cat underneath it. We knew for days that
Teddy Bear
was going to leave us (read - she's 14 yrs old or so we think, have had her with us since 1996 - she was 3 or 4 or 5, according to the catrescuepeople from whom we got her). It was a combination of old age, too much weight, diagnosed kidney failure back in July of this year, and, as of a week ago, after she had lost 4-1/2 lbs (huge loss down from 19 lbs to 15.4 lbs) in two months, a new diagnosis of diabetes (blood sugar level went from 176 in July 2006 to 400+9/28/06. And this is Teddy Bear about 2-1/2 months ago, after her first lion cut, and then about 6 days ago:
and now, she's probably totally gone. Sorta like "Arsenic and Old Lace"
Max left the house around 1030am to take Teddy Bear's body to the Humane Society of New York; he wouldn't take anything else with him, so I'm going to give the diabetes paraphernalia to my friend who has a diabetic cat.
I'll probably give the kidney cat food and supplements to the crazy cat woman across the hall, unless she pisses me off again; she spent $15,000 on chemo for one of her 12 cats a couple of years back, and then wouldn't contribute to the redoing of our communal elevator vestibule, saying that she "couldn't afford" the $50 per person we were asking for.
update: since the people at the Humane Society were so wonderful, we donated all leftover cat food and supplies to them.

So ... Kiki (our "baby" Siberian) was getting a little lonely - and we did what any good parent would do, we got her a baby of her own! Luckily, her breeder move to the area, and had a little bundle of joy just waiting to come to our house.
Introducing .... Colette, (we call her Coco)
9 weeks old and already a New Yorker!
Kiki's a little suspicious ...
but we're sure that after she has a day or two to scope out the situation, they will be rolled up in each other all the time!
So, there IS a happy ending!
